Germany's Markus Lell claimed the gold medal in the senior men's compulsory figures competition at the International Federation of Roller Sports (FIRS) Artistic Roller Skating World Championships at the Pala Igor Arena in Novara today.

His near-perfect display made him impossible to beat in the Italian city, with home favourite Marco Santucci having to settle for the silver medal.

Argentina's defending champion Luis Hector De Mattia claimed the bronze medal as his reign came to an end.

There was gold for the South American country in the women's event, however, as Annabella Mendoz claimed gold.

Again there was Italian silver for the host nation as Giada Cavataio was unable to match the judges' scores for Mendoz.

Carlos Urquia won another Argentinian medal by clinching silver, while there was home bronze for Italy's Antonio Panfili.

The women's inline title when to Natalie Motley of the United States, ahead of Germany's Claudia Pfeiffer and France's Serena Giraud respectively.
