Two-time world champion Severin Freund is set to make his ski jumping comeback after a five-month break due to injury.

The 28-year-old, a member of Germany’s gold medal-winning men's large hill team at the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympic Games, has been selected by his country for the final two competitions of the International Ski Federation (FIS) Summer Grand Prix.

The events in Hinzenbach in Austria and Klingenthal in Germany, scheduled to take place tomorrow and Sunday (October 2) respectively, will be his first after undergoing hip surgery in April.

Freund will be on the team together with Richard Freitag, Andreas Wellinger, Andreas Wank, Karl Geiger and David Siegel.

An additional national group of six athletes will participate in Klingenthal.

"Now that Severin Freund is back training with the team, we have our entire group together and we will take part in both competitions with this group," said head coach Werner Schuster.

"Severin is healthy now and he was able to train as planned.

"These two competitions are a good test for Severin for the final weeks of training before the World Cup season."

He added: "We are really looking forward to the ski jumping weekend in Hinzenbach and Klingenthal.

"The Summer Grand Prix final in front of the home crowd in Klingenthal is a big privilege for us and so team is highly motivated.

"Over the last days we trained in Bischofshofen and Ramsau."

Freund fell during the Four Hills Tournament in Innsbruck in January which caused his hip problems.

He still managed to complete the 2015-16 World Cup campaign, where he finished second behind Slovenia's runaway leader Peter Prevc.

Freund is a World Cup champion from 2014-15 and a former ski flying world champion having triumphed in Czech town Harrachov in 2014.
