Argentina will face Croatia in the final of the Davis Cup after clinching a gutsy 3-2 victory over defending champions Great Britain today in Glasgow.

The Argentinians had led 2-0 after the opening day's singles, but had to contend with a partisan home crowd at the Emirates Arena as well as the resolute doggedness of world number two Andy Murray before eventually prevailing.

After joining his brother Jamie in winning the doubles yesterday, Murray won 6-3, 6-2, 6-3 against Guido Pella despite leaving the court from a medical time out midway through the third set.

It was thus left to Leonardo Mayer to complete the job for the South Americans after replacing Juan Martin Del Potro.

He was up against Dan Evans, who was hoping to repeat the form he showed in coming within a point of knocking eventual winner Stan Wawrinka out of the US Open earlier this month.

Evans started well in winning the first set 6-4 before Mayer aggressive approach began to reap rewards.

His power overwhelmed the young Britain as he took the next three sets 6-3, 6-2, 6-4 for a four-set triumph.

Argentina will now travel to Croatia for the final in November after Marin Cilic sealed an unassailable 3-1 win over France in Zadar earlier today.

Croatia led 2-1 heading into the reverse singles after doubles success yesterday.

But they only required one match after the world number 11 proved too strong for Gasquet in winning 6-3, 6-2, 7-5.

Gasquet, ranked 17, was drafted in after Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and Gael Monfils pulled out with knee injuries but proved unable to make inroads.

"When you look at the atmosphere, it's an incredible feeling," said 2014 US Open winner Cilic.

"It's been a dream weekend for us.

"I played incredible tennis.

"I produced a great performance for all the crowd."
