The Lithuanian Olympic Committee (LTOK) hosted the team from the Erasmus project “Sport for Everyone” during the European Week of Sport (EWoS) in capital city Vilnius.

The aim of the project is to encourage National Olympic Committees (NOCs) to share ideas and practices in promoting grassroots sport, as well as getting involved in the EWoS.

After greetings from LTOK President Daina Gudzineviciute, representatives from the four partner NOCs of France, Italy, Portugal and Macedonia, as well as members of the Sport and Citizenship think tank, discussed the content of the handbook for joining the EWoS.

Since July 2015, a project team has been exchanging experiences linked to the four "focus days" of the EWoS - workplace, education, outdoors and fitness.

The team chose a "varied and rich" selection of good practices in the four areas, which will be compiled in the handbook to provide ideas which will hopefully make people more physically active in their own country.

In addition to good practices, a methodological guidebook - called "How to join the EWoS in eight steps” has been included to help sport organisations build their own event step-by-step.

The seminar also gave the Lithuanian national coordinator of the EWoS, the Sport for All Association, a chance to present on a range of events, including a run for children during the Vilnius Marathon and the Municipalities' Games.

As the city of Trakai, located close to Vilnius, is a vibrant outdoor setting to practice sport, the participants were also eager to hold their own run under the #BeActive banner.

The seminar ended with an appearance at the start of the Vilnius Marathon.

The draft handbook for joining the EWoS will be presented in Brussels at the end of November, during the Closing Seminar that will be held alongside the Special Competence Seminar of the European Olympic Committees.

The English online version will be then available in early December, on the website of the project “Sport4Everyone”.

Erasmus is a European Union student exchange programme, which covers education, training, youth and sport.
