Argentina’s Mayra Yaquel Arias claimed the gold medal in the women’s 10,000 metres on the second day of the World Speed Skating Championships at the Nanjing Youth Olympic Sports Park Roller Skating Court.

The points and elimination race saw Arias storm to victory as she collected 14 points on route to a final finishing time of 15min 19.599sec.

Colombia’s Fabriana Arias settled for second place after finishing in 15:39.988, with Yu Garam of South Korea rounding off the podium in a time of 15:26.588.

The men’s final required a restart due to a fall on the circuit before Kevin Kumada won the event having claimed 15 points, helping to achieve a finish in a time of 14:36.538.

It was silver again for Colombia, with Saavedra Manuel finishing in a time of 14:50.913 with 11 points.

South Korea’s Son Geunseong ended in 14:32.506, but, due to having two less points than Manuel, was forced to settle for bronze.

Gwendal Le Pivert triumphed in the men’s 500m sprint competition, the Frenchman coming through the rounds to win the final in a time of 40.752sec.

South Korea’s Jang Suchul claimed the silver, finishing in 40.812, while a time of 41.015 was enough for France’s Elton De Souza to take bronze.

The women’s 500m was won by Colombia’s Paola Segura after she finished in 43.356.

Her team-mate Jercy Puello and the United States’ Erin Jackson completed the podium in 43.447 and 43.680 respectively.
