Brazil were denied three gold medals on the last day of judo competition at the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games after their athletes suffered final defeats at the Carioca Arena 3 in Rio de Janeiro today.

Antônio Tenório successfully bettered the bronze medal he claimed at London 2012 by reaching the final of the men’s under 100 kilograms event.

He faced the daunting task of attempting to defeat defending champion Gwang-Geun Choi of South Korea in the gold medal bout, but quickly fell to a loss by ippon.

Yukos proved decisive in the two bronze medal contests, with Uzbekistan’s Shirin Sharipov scoring one against Azerbaijan’s Kanan Abdullakhanli to triumph in the first.

Cuba’s Yordani Fenandez Sastre then scored three yukos to defeat Great Britain’s Christopher Skelley.

The men’s over 100kg final provided further disappointment for the host nation, as Wilians Silva de Araujo fell to a swift defeat.

Just two seconds passed between the contest starting and ending, with Uzbekistan’s Adiljan Tuledibaev sweeping his opponent's leg and forcing him to the floor for an instant ippon.

An ippon also proved enough for Japan’s Kento Masaki to claim bronze against Iran’s Hamzeh Nadri, while Cuba’s Yangaliny Jimenez defeated Azerbaijan’s two-time Paralympic champion Ilham Zakiyev with a yuko.

The third Brazilian final loss came in the women’s under 70kg division, with Mexico’s Lenia Fabiola Ruvalcaba Alvarez powering to a win by ippon over home hope Alana Martins, having dominated from the start.

The two bronze medals were decided by shido penalties, with Venezuela’s Naomi Soazo and Uzbekistan’s Gulruh Rahimova winning their respective contests against Croatia’s Lucija Breskovic and Nikolett Szabo of Hungary.

China's Yuan Yanping successfully defended her women’s over 70kg crown, having won the title at both the Beijing 2008 and London 2012 Paralympic Games.

The 40-year-old achieved a yuko early on against Uzbekistan’s Khayitjon Alimova, before rubber-stamping the victory with an ippon.

Georgia were left celebrating their first gold medal of the Games, with Zviad Gogotchuri delivering in the men’s under 90kg final.

Ukrainian opponent Oleksandr Nazarenko was handed four shido penalties, which ultimately resulted in his disqualification from the gold medal match, leading the 30-year-old to settle for silver.

The United States' Dartanyon Crockett claimed bronze for the second straight Paralympic Games by scoring two yukos to defeat Britain’s Sam Ingram.

The podium was completed by Uzbekistan’s Shukrat Bobev after he achieved a 20-second hold of Cuba’s Jorge Hierrezuelo to achieve ippon.
