The World Flying Disc Federation (WFDF) has announced that the 2017 Asia Oceanic Ultimate and Guts Club Championships (AOUGCC) will be staged in Manila.

The event in The Philippines' capital will be staged at the Ayala Alabang Country Club between August 17 and August 20 next year.

It follows a successful bid from the Philippine Flying Disc Association (PFDA) with a team headed up by vice-president Karen Cabrera.

The Tournament Organising Committee (TOC) expects more than 60 club teams from neighbouring Asia and Oceania countries, including Japan, China, Chinese Taipei, South Korea, Singapore, Malaysia, United Arab Emirates, Qatar, India and Australia, to compete in the event.

There will also be a number of ultimate divisions played in men’s, women’s, mixed, masters and junior categories, with the tournament also expecting to host eight guts teams, a different variant of flying disc, for the first time.

"WFDF is pleased to award The Philippines this premiere continental championship event, with this quadrennial club team event continuing to grow strongly," said WFDF President Robert Rauch.

"The addition of the juniors under-20 divisions will assist our regional junior teams gain invaluable major event experience in preparation for their participation at the WFDF World Junior Ultimate Championships in Canada to be held in 2018."

Ultimate and guts were hosted separately in 2015, with the Asia Oceanic Guts Club Championships held in New Taipei City, Chinese Taipei, with 14 teams taking part across two days.

The Asia Oceanic Ultimate Championships were held in Hong Kong the following month, where the event attracted 21 national teams from 11 countries.

"Combining both guts and ultimate disciplines in one event will create less logistical issues for our continental member federations," added Rauch.

Philippine Flying Disc Association President Ping Bautista said: "We are excited and thrilled to host the Asia Oceanic Ultimate and Guts Club Championships here in The Philippines.

"We promise to make it a worthwhile event for all participants and spectators.

"We look forward to seeing club teams from all over the Asia Oceanic region compete over four days of non-stop action on the fields of Alabang Country Club.

"See you all on the fields."
