Netball Australia have bolstered their coaching staff ahead of the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games and the 2019 Netball World Cup with the appointment of Roselee Jencke as assistant coach - defensive specialist.

Jencke, the most successful coach in the history of the ANZ Championship, will jointly hold the role along with her position with domestic team Queensland Firebirds.

She will only work with the national squad outside of the national netball league season, it has been confirmed.

Jencke guided her team to back-to-back ANZ Championship titles last year and had a 73 per cent win record in the competition, which used to be the premier netball league for Australia and New Zealand.

Her appointment comes as Australia bid to clinch a second consecutive Commonwealth Games gold medal after they beat arch-rivals New Zealand in the final at Glasgow 2014.

The Australian side, nicknamed the Diamonds, will then attempt to defend the Netball World Cup crown they earned in 2015 when the competition comes to Liverpool in England in three years' time.

"It is important for the Diamonds to have continuity and stability in high performance coaching, leading into our benchmark events,” said Netball Australia head of high performance Andrew Collins.

“Our national netball league coaches form strong connections to their athletes in the daily training environment and it is important that they are connected to our international environment and events. All of our national league coaches form part of our highly successful national programme and they are critical important to our system.

“Roselee’s coaching record speaks for itself.

"We thank Netball Queensland for their support of Rose and their support for her in undertaking this role."

Lisa Alexander, head coach of the Australian team, says she is looking forward to working with someone who has the pedigree of Jencke.

"Roselee has earned this position based on many factors, she is a winning championship coach and her loyalty and integrity in terms of supporting the national programme has been aligned and consistent since the beginning of my term as national coach," she said.

“She has been of utmost support to me professionally and I look forward to working closely with her and our Diamonds."
