The Slovakian, who has the distinction of being awarded the Olympic Order, was first an FIS judge and was also chairman of the Ski Association of Czechoslovakia for two decades, between 1954 and 1974.

He served as secretary general of the 1970 FIS Nordic World Ski Championships in High Tatras in Slovakia, and played an "important role" in both the successful delivery of the event and the promotion and development of the sport in the country.

At the FIS, he also served as a member of the ruling council between 1969 and 1990 and was appointed honorary member at the end of his tenure.

This was "in recognition of his outstanding services and commitment to the sport of skiing".

He became one of the most important sports officials in Slovakia, and was appointed as secretary general of the newly-created Slovak Olympic Committee in 1992.

This came after the organisation's creation ahead of Slovakia's split from the Czech Republic.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) awarded him the Olympic Order in silver for "particularly distinguished contributions to the Olympic Movement".

Mraz died in Slovakian capital Bratislava following a battle with cardiovascular disease.
