International Paralympic Committee (IPC) President Sir Philip Craven has been named as one of the headline speakers for a special Inclusion Summit due to be held in Rio de Janeiro during the Paralympic Games.

Organised as part of the IPC Academy Campus in partnership with the World Academy of Sport, the Inclusion Summit will bring together business leaders, Governments and the Paralympic Movement on September 15 and 16.

Together they will discuss inclusion and accessibility, their impact on society, and how the Paralympic Games have supposedly developed into the world’s number one sporting event for driving social inclusion.

The other headline speaker is Charlotte McClain-Nhlapo, disability advisor of the World Bank which provides loans to developing countries for capital programmes.

In addition to the Inclusion Summit, the IPC Academy Campus offers a Games Experience Programme (GEP) aimed at Governments and those involved in the supply chain of the Paralympic Games to help them understand and observe the delivery of such an event.

Specifically, the GEP, which is scheduled to take place from September 12 to 14, strives to deliver a multi-stakeholder perspective of Games management by providing insights and access to specific core-operating functions.

Speakers include Sir Philip as well as Rio de Janeiro Mayor Eduardo Paes, Commonwealth Games Federation chief executive David Grevemberg, Olympic Broadcasting Services chief executive Yiannis Exarchos, and British public-service television broadcaster Channel 4’s head of sport and TV events, Ed Havard.

The provisional programme of the GEP is structured and delivered over three overarching themes, one for each day, followed by targeted site visits to related competition and non-competition venues.

Day one is focused on "Winning strategies for major sport events" with day two dedicated to "The making of a successful host city: networks, infrastructure and legacy" and day three looking at "Marketing and broadcasting".

The IPC Academy is a partnership between the IPC and the World Academy of Sport and is the education division of the IPC.

It aims to bring individuals together to improve educational standards of sport throughout the Paralympic Movement and ensure that executives, administrators and officials have an educational centre that is sensitive to their needs and in touch with trends and developments.
