Ski flying world champion Daniel-André Tande's pre-season preparations have been hit by a blow after he suffered a stress fracture in his leg.

The 22-year-old Norwegian will not be able to jump for at least two weeks as a result of the injury.

"Six weeks without jumping and strength training," said Tande to NTB.

"Maybe I can still jump in the summer season, but it's better to be injured now than in winter.

"I have to know when to take it easy, before I feel the pain.

"I can't push myself too hard and I have to get to know my body better.

"I still feel some pain, but it's getting better every week."

Tande now hopes to return to action by competing at the International Ski Federation (FIS) Grand Prix event in Jakuba, Japan, at the end of next month.

He is the second Norwegian to suffer injury in the run-up to the new season after Kenneth Gangnes tore his ACL in June.

Both men were members of the Norway squad which won team gold at this year's FIS World Ski Flying Championships in Bad Mitterndorf in Austria.

Tande's best result of the 2015-16 FIS Ski Jumping World Cup season came at the very first event, when he topped the podium in Klingenthal in Germany.

He went on to finish seventh overall in the standings, as the third best Norwegian.
