The women's final at the Badminton World Federation (BWF) US Open will be an all-Japanese affair following the semi-final action in Los Angeles today.

Both players to reach the showpiece match are unseeded, with 18-year-old Saena Kawakami battling through against Canada's Commonwealth Games champion Michelle Li.

Kawakami, who will be looking for a second title at Grand Prix Gold level after winning the New Zealand Open in 2015, came through 21-18, 21-12 against the Glasgow 2014 gold medallist.

Her final opponent will be compatriot Ayumi Mine, who defeated Bulgarian seventh seed Linda Zechiri, who won a European Championship bronze medal in 2012.

The Japanese was successful 22-20, 21-12.

In the men's draw, the final will also be an unseeded affair between two Asian players.

He will play South Korean Lee Hyun-il, who ended the hopes of Guatemala's double Pan American Games champion Kevin Cordon, 21-16, 21-8.

Lee won a World Championship bronze medal in 2006 and is a double Asian Games gold medallist.

Action at the Los Angeles Badminton Club will continue tomorrow with the two singles finals.

The doubles competitions will also conclude in the 2024 Summer Olympic bid city.
