There will be home interest in the first-ever men's wheelchair tennis singles final at Wimbledon after Gordon Reid battled through to the showpiece game on the famous grass courts today.

The Scot, already the Australian Open champion, ousted Belgium's second seed Joachim Gerard in straight sets.

He won the first set 7-6 after winning a long tiebreak 11-9, and then wrapped up the contest by taking the second set 6-4.

Twenty-four-year-old Reid will now play Stefan Olsson in the final after the Swede knocked out top seed Stephane Houdet of France.

Olsson, who won a Paralympic doubles gold medal at London 2012, came through 3-6, 6-3, 6-3.

Wheelchair singles is debuting at Wimbledon this year with the women's final confirmed as an all Dutch affair.

Top seed Jiske Griffioen won her semi-final against compatriot Marjolein Buis, coming from behind to win 6-7, 6-0, 7-6.

Her final opponent will be Aniek van Koot, who ended home British hopes by defeating Jordanne Whiley 7-5, 6-3.
