Italy is hosting the Championship for a 10th time with 42 nations and 445 athletes participating.

"For many athletes this Championship has a special meaning," said European Shooting Confederation President Vladimir Lisin, who declared the event open yesterday.

"It is their last chance to evaluate the results of preparation to the Games of the XXXI Olympiad in Rio de Janeiro."

Luciano Rossi, President of the Italian Shooting Sport Federation (FITAV), also delivered a speech at the Opening Ceremony.

"The FITAV Board has indicated the well-known shooting club Trap Concaverde and Lonato del Garda as the best organising crew and venue to host the competition," he said.

"I’m sure that this choice, as it always has done in the past, shall prove to be the best one, offering all participants the best possible settings."
