Purevjargal Lkhamdegd delivered their first gold of the day and took Mongolia’s overall tally to seven titles, as she eased past Croatia’s Brigita Matic in the women’s under 78 kilogram final.

The 29-year-old secured the lead in the contest with a waza-ari and continued to dominate proceedings, with the Olympic bound judoka then sealing victory by achieving an ippon.

Lkhamdegd’s team-mate Uuganjargal Munkh-erdene joined her on the podium by earning an ippon win over compatriot Sarangoo Ganbold, while fellow Mongolian Myagmartsend Batbilegt was beaten by South Korea’s Yujin Park.

Mongolia were assured of success in the men’s under 90kg competition when Altanbagana Gantulga and Otgonbaatar Lkhagvasuren booked their place in the final, with the latter winning through an ippon to defend his Ulaanbaatar title and boost his confidence ahead of Rio 2016.

Azerbaijan’s Firudin Dadashov achieved one waza-ari and two yukos on route to beating Mongolia’s Tsetsentsengel Odkhuu in the opening bronze medal contest, while China’s Erihemubatu triumphed with an ippon against his compatriot Rigede Bu.

The third and final Mongolian gold of the day came in the men’s over 100kg division, with Temuulen Battulga achieving an ippon in the final 11 seconds of his clash against another local judoka in Duurenbayar Ulziibayar.

In the sole bronze medal contest, Mongolia’s Sugarjargal Boldpurev used his considerable frame to battle past his team-mate Amartuvshin Erdenebileg through an ippon.

Azerbaijan’s Zelym Kotsoiev ended the run of home successes by defeating Ishdorj Dashdulam in the under 100kg gold medal contest, with the 17-year-old showing his potential by achieving a waza-ari in the opening seconds of the bout.

Kotsoiev’s score proved to be the only one of the five minute encounter, with the former Cadet World Championship runner-up becoming one of the youngest Grand Prix winners in history.

The Mongolian duo of Ambaselmaa Bayarsaikhan and Tuvshinjargal Gan earned the division’s bronze medals by achieving ippon and shido penalty victories over their Chinese opponents Risa Na and Rigule Te.

Cuba’s Idalys Ortiz continued to warm-up for her Olympic title defence in style, as she sealed her third consecutive victory in an International Judo Federation (IJF) event.

Following successes in the Almaty Grand Prix and World Judo Masters, Ortiz defeated Mongolia’s Javzmaa Odkhuu with two waza-aris in the women's over 78kg competition.

Japan’s Suzuka Ichihashi defeated Russia’s Ekaterina Sheremetova with an ippon to secure the first bronze, before Mongolia’s Munkhtuya Battulga replicated the feat in her clash against China’s Nan Li.
