Three-time Olympic champion Jin Jong-oh of South Korea added to his growing collection of gold medals with victory in the men’s 50 metres pistol event at the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World Cup at the Baku Olympic Shooting Range.

China also enjoyed a successful day as they claimed a one-two in the women’s 10m air rifle final, with Du Bei topping the podium ahead of team-mate Shi Mengyao.

Jin, the current world record holder, will be aiming to become the first shooter in history to win a fourth Olympic gold at Rio 2016 and laid down another marker in the Azerbaijani capital with a formidable display.

The South Korean secured the title as he scored a total of 192.4 points in the final ahead of eventual silver medallist Zheng Bowen, who socred 187.9.

The brronze medal went the way of Jin’s compatriot Lee Dae-myung as he recorded 167.1 points.

The result for Jin, who was also the top scorer in qualifying with 565 points, saw him clinch his first ISSF World Cup victory of the season having earned a silver medal in the 2016 Olympic Games host city and bronze in Munich.

His triumph extended his personal haul of World Cup medals to 23.

In the women’s 10m air rifle, Du fired China to their first title of the event in Baku, the last World Cup competition of the season, by scoring 208.6 points to narrowly pip Shi.

Her fellow Chinese athlete ended just 0.3 points adrift of the winning total as Shi’s 208.3, a world junior record, was not quite enough for her to secure gold.

Shi’s score was 0.4 more than the record set by Iran’s Najmeh Khedmati at the 2014 Asian Games.

Park Hae Mi picked up another medal for South Korea as she took home bthe ronze.

The competition in Baku is due to continue tomorrow as gold medals are due to be awarded in the men’s 10m air pistol, the women’s 25m pistol and men’s double trap events.
