Slovenian ski jumper Jure Šinkovec has announced his retirement following several years of injuries.

The 30-year-old was a member of the Slovenian team which won a bronze medal at the Ski flying World Championships in Vikersund in 2012.

Since then, however, he has suffered from a knee injury.

Šinkovec did return briefly to training earlier this month following his latest round of rehabilitation but has decided he is not fit enough to return to the top-level.

He hopes to remain in the sport as a coach.

Šinkovec had made his World Cup debut in 2005 in Kuusamo in Finland.

In February 2012 he celebrated his only win in the World Cup with the Slovenian team in a ski flying event in Oberstdorf

His best individual result on a World Cup level was a second place in the Grand Prix in Almaty in 2011.
