Simon Munn will make his seventh appearance at the Paralympic Games after being named in Britain's 12 member wheelchair basketball squad for the men’s tournament at Rio 2016.

Munn made his Paralympic Games debut at Barcelona 1992 and was a member of the British teams who finished as silver medallists at the Atlanta 1996, as well as bronze at both Athens 2004 and Beijing 2008.

Four-time Paralympian Terry Bywater was a member of the bronze medal winning teams and has been selected to co-captain the team alongside Simon Brown, who will make his second Paralympic Games appearance.

“I am so pleased to have been selected once again, the excitement and the pride at being able to compete at a Paralympics never wears off,” said Bywater.

“Rio will be such an important Games for us as athletes.

“It’s the first Games after London, and that was a watershed Games in terms of public support and recognition for Paralympic athletes.

“Hopefully that can continue in 2016, both with the British public as well as in Rio.”

After losing to the United States in the bronze medal match in front of their home fans at London 2012, the British team will hope to return to the podium in Rio.

Harry Brown is one of five Paralympic debutants in the team, with the 21-year-old joined by Gregg Warburton, Phil Pratt, Kyle Marsh and Lee Manning.

The squad is completed by Abdi Jama, Ade Orogbemi, Ian Sagar and Gaz Choudhry.

“Wheelchair basketball is undoubtedly one of the most exciting and engaging sports on the Paralympic programme, it is a clear crowd favourite and I know that this British team will be in a position to put on a fantastic show,” Penny Briscoe, Chef de Mission for ParalympicsGB.

“The level of experience in this team is arguably unprecedented for a ParalympicsGB team and I can’t wait to see them in action.

Britain, who are the reigning European champions, will face the United States, hosts Brazil, Iran, Germany and Algeria in Group B at the Games.

Defending champions Canada will clash with world champions Australia, Spain, Turkey, Netherlands and Japan in Group A.

Action is due to take place at the Olympic Training Center and the Rio Olympic Arena from September 8 to 17.
