Sancho Lyttle was the star performer as Spain’s women booked their place in the Rio 2016 basketball competition today.

The Spanish, the World Cup runners-up in 2014, beat South Korea 70-50 in their quarter-final at the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) Olympic qualifying tournament in France.

All four last eight winners today would confirm their Olympic spot with Spain far too strong for the Koreans at Nantes’ La Trocardiere venue.

Power forward Lyttle, who plays for Turkish club Galatasaray and was born in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, bagged 24 points in the success.

Lucila Pascua contributed with nine rebounds as Spain romped into a 17-7 lead after the first quarter and never looked back.

South Korea’s Rio hopes are not over as all four losing quarter-finalists will now play-off for one final berth.

Joining Spain at the Olympics will be Turkey, who won their last eight clash with Cuba, 71-45.

LaToya Sanders, who plays in the WNBA with Washington Mystics, top-scored with 18 points.

Hosts France beat Argentina 90-53 to book their spot, while China were 84-70 winners over Belarus.

In tomorrow's play-off semi-finals for the fifth spot, Cuba will play the Koreans with Belarus meeting Argentina.

No further matches will be played by the teams who have booked their Rio spots, so you cannot “win” the tournament.
