A high-level delegation from Paris 2024, led by chief executive Etienne Thobois, has visited a number of venues due to be used if rival bidder Los Angeles is successful in its campaign to host the Olympic and Paralympic Games as part of a “fact-finding mission” to the American city.

The Los Angeles Times reported that members of the French capital’s campaign were seen snapping photos and recording video in the Coliseum and Galen Center.

they also visited the proposed Media Village, located at the University of Southern California (USC).

The Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum is set to be one of the key facilities should Los Angeles win its bid as it is due to stage athletics and the Opening and Closing Ceremonies.

It has a capacity of over 93,000 and is the current home of National Football League side the Los Angeles Rams.

It would be the first stadium in the history of the Olympics to host the event three times having also staged them in 1932 and 1984.

The Galen Center would host badminton and taekwondo.

The visiting party from Paris 2024 were also due to travel to the planned Athletes’ Village at UCLA this morning, the newspaper said.

The French Consulate in Los Angeles helped arrange the visit, according to a spokesperson for the USC.

Paris 2024 confirmed a few of the members of the Bid Committee had been in Los Angeles.

“A small delegation from Paris 2024 has been visiting a variety of facilities and venues in the Los Angeles area,” a spokesperson from Paris 2024 told insidethegames.

“It was a fact-finding mission and conducted in an appropriate manner."

While not prohibited by the International Olympic Committee (IOC), the tour from Paris 2024 constitutes an interesting move, with the two cities already established as the front runners ahead of the other candidates, Budapest and Rome.

The IOC do not need to be notified if a similar visit is planned and there are no rules against carrying out such trips.

Jeff Millman, a spokesman for Los Angeles 2024, issued a brief statement to the Los Angeles Times, claiming they had “no objections” .

He added, though, that Paris 2024 checking out their fiercest competition was “surprising”.

The IOC is due elect its chosen host city at its Session in Lima in September 2017.
