Idre Fjall in Sweden will play host to the 2017 International Ski Federation (FIS) Speed Ski World Championships.

Situated in Älvdalen Municipality in Dalarna County, Idre Fall staged an FIS Ski Cross World Cup event in February.

The ski resort was chosen to host the 2017 FIS Speed Ski World Championships by the FIS Council during the recent FIS Congress in Cancun in Mexico.

Valmalenco in Italy was awarded the 2017 FIS Freestyle Junior World Ski Championships, while Rjukan in Norway was given the 2017 FIS Telemark Junior World Ski Championships.

In other decisions, FIS Council member Dean Gosper of Australia has been appointed chairman of the combined Snowboard Freestyle Freeski Committee.

Norway’s Sverre Seeberg has been elected chairman of the Finance Commission and treasurer, while Canada’s Patrick Smith has taken up the post of chairman of the FIS Doping Panel.

The FIS has said it will await the outcome of the investigation into alleged breaches at the Sochi 2014 doping laboratory before evaluating and liaising with the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) and the International Olympic Committee as to whether there is further action required.

The independent investigation into new allegations surrounding state-sponsored doping at Sochi 2014, overseen by Canadian lawyer Richard McLaren, is due to be completed by July 15.

It follows explosive claims made by former Moscow Laboratory director Grigory Rodchenkov of up to 15 medal winners being implicated in an elaborate operation in which urine samples were switched to avoid the detection of use of banned substances.
