Title holders and reigning Olympic champions Germany overturned a two-goal deficit for the second time in as many days to claim a 4-4 draw against Belgium at the men’s International Hockey Federation (FIH) Champions Trophy in London.

Belgium fell behind to their European rivals twice before the half-time break, with Sébastien Dockier and Arthur van Doren cancelling out strikes from Germany’s Tobias Hauke and Marco Miltkau at the Lee Valley Hockey and Tennis Centre on the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.

A torrential rainstorm made conditions unplayable and delayed the restart by over 30 minutes, but when the match eventually resumed, Germany soon found themselves 4-2 down.

Alexandre de Paeuw’s strike was followed by a superb individual effort from Florent van Aubel, who ensured his 150th international appearance was one to remember.

Just when it seemed that a Belgium victory was on the cards, Germany hit back with two goals in three minutes to secure a point.

Miltkau grabbed his second to make it 4-3 before Oliver Korn secured his country a share of the spoils six minutes from time.

"It was good that we got a draw in the end, coming back from two goals down is good to see and shows that we can come back," said Nicolas Jacobi, who alongside compatriot Benedikt Fürk played his 100th senior international match.

"The first half was really positive ahead of our next games and in terms of our progress towards Rio.

"I think we are in a good way."

Belgium coach Shane McLeod added: "We are always looking for a win but it was a much better performance in many areas than yesterday [when they lost 2-0 against South Korea] and I’m happy about that.

"To blow a two-goal lead, even in the modern game as it is, is a little bit frustrating but it was a good game of hockey."

Goals from Mandeep Singh and Harmanpreet Singh earned Asian champions India a 2-1 win over hosts Great Britain in the second match of the day.

An Ashley Jackson penalty corner reduced the arrears but it wasn't enough to save Britain from defeat.

In the last game of the day, top-ranked Australia were given a stern test by South Korea before eventually prevailing 4-2 winners to move to the summit of the league table on goal difference ahead of India.

Australian goals either side of half-time from Blake Govers and Eddie Ockenden were cancelled out by strikes from Kim Juhun and Lee Jungjun.

However, the reigning world champions stepped up their game in the final quarter to score twice through Trent Mitton and Glenn Turner and seal the win going into tomorrow's rest day.
