The 28-year-old and his brother Jonathan, the London 2012 bronze medallist, will be the centre of attention in the men’s event as the Series arrives in the city for the first time.

A leg of the World Series has been held at London’s Hyde Park since 2009, except in 2012 when it was the Olympic venue, but British Triathlon has now chosen Leeds to take over hosting the country's round for an initial three years.

The Brownlee brothers will look to battle Javier Gomez of Spain, with the five-time world champion vying for victory on his debut race of the 2016 Series.

Gomez, the London 2012 silver medallist, will be leading his country’s pursuit of a fifth straight win during this year’s Series after three wins for Mario Mola and one for Fernando Alarza.

Neither man has opted to compete in Leeds.

The host nation will also be well represented during the women’s race, with Non Stanford and Vicky Holland set to target success just days after being named in the British Olympic team.

Stanford showed her form earlier in the season by earning victory at the Cape Town leg of the Series and will be hopeful of challenging again for a podium spot during the 1500 metre swim, 41 kilometre cycle and 10km run.

Jodie Stimpson, who won the Series opener in Abu Dhabi, and Lucy Hall will complete the British team in Leeds.

The United States’ world champion Gwen Jorgensen will provide the biggest threat to the home athletes, having been the dominant force in women’s triathlon in recent years.

Jorgensen will receive support from her team-mate Sarah True as she targets a second straight victory, following success in Yokohama last month.
