Ivan Todorov has been elected President of the Serbian Judo Federation (SJF) for the fifth consecutive time.

The one-time award-winning national team member turned sports official will look to build on the SJF’s progress in the current Olympic cycle, which has seen some promising results posted.

In April, Aleksandar Kukolj narrowly missed out on a men’s under 90 kilograms bronze medal at the European Judo Championships in Russian city Kazan after losing against Poland’s Piotr Kuczera.

Kukolj is Serbia’s sole Rio 2016 judo qualifier having ranked among the top 22 eligible judokas for men in the International Judo Federation (IJF) world ranking list on May 30.

"Apart from being grateful for the trust you put in me to be at the helm of the Serbian Judo Federation once again, I feel obligated to bring up and say how happy I am for all the results we achieved together," said Todorov.

"I am happy to see we all succeeded and persisted in our wish to apply international standards concerning the function of the organisation itself in our judo family too.

"That’s primarily evidenced by the quality system that has been introduced in all aspects of the Serbian Judo Federation’s work."

Milovan Bratić has been elected chairman of the SJF's Executive Board, while Lidija Popović has been re-elected general secretary.

Having declared independence from Serbia in 2008, Kosovo were formally admitted to the International Olympic Committee in December 2014.

There was a row over Kosovo's participation at the European Judo Championships and it was only resolved following the intervention of IJF President Marius Vizer.

It allowed the Kosovan flag to be raised following Majlinda Kelmendi's victory in the women's under 52kg event.
