British Gymnastics' disability programme has reached the milestone of 1,500 members.

The growth in numbers comes after the organisation championed its "I'M IN" programme, which aims to develop more high quality opportunities for disabled people in the sport.

More than 200 clubs affiliated to British Gymnastics now cater for those with physical or learning disabilities, sensory impairments and other health conditions.

I'M IN, which was launched in 2013, offers coaching support and mentoring to clubs which want to become more inclusive.

More than 200 coaches have benefitted from the initiative so far.

“Reaching 1,500 disabled members is a fantastic achievement, but we want to keep on building on this and continue to connect even more disabled people to our sport," said British Gymnastics disability manager Patrick Bonner.

Lindsay Games, Head of Disability at Sport England, added: “We are delighted that our Sport England investment in the I’M IN Programme is enabling British Gymnastics to connect so many new disabled participants to the sport.

"The quality and number of opportunities for disabled people to participate in British Gymnastics clubs continues to grow year on year, so we are extremely pleased to see a commitment to inclusion on this scale which is helping disabled people to start, stay and succeed in gymnastics.”
