Advisory firm Teneo Sports have handed a role to rugby legend Brian O'Driscoll.

The Irishman has been appointed as a senior advisor and will work in London for Blue Rubicon, a reputation management company Teneo purchased last year.

Teneo's clients have included football's world governing body FIFA, who hired the company last year as part of efforts to rebuild its reputation amid bribery and corruption scandals.

The firm have also been involved in the Olympic bid process, with current co-President Terrence Burns hired as chief marketing officer by Los Angeles 2024 in January.

Burns has previously served on winning bids from Beijing 2008, Vancouver 2010, Sochi 2014 and Pyeongchang 2018.

Teneo was co-founded in 2011 by O'Driscoll's compatriot, Declan Kelly.

“Given the level of clients and brands that they are associated with, there’s a huge amount of experience I can gain while adding my own experience to a sector that they are looking at building," O'Driscoll told The Irish Times.

"It’s a great opportunity for me to grow and evolve.

"There are lots of different components to what I’m doing but they all allow me flexibility that if my wife needs to move abroad that I can go with all these things.

"That’s why I’ve chosen a portfolio of things.”

According to reports, O'Driscoll could be used to advise non-sports clients.

The 37-year-old former rugby centre, who retired in 2014, won 141 caps for Ireland.

Only New Zealand's Richie McCaw, who has 148, boasts more on the international stage, with O'Driscoll also scoring 47 tries for his country.

He was named in the British & Irish Lions squad - which only tours every four years - on four occasions and won the Six Nations title with Ireland twice, including the Grand Slam in 2009.

With club side Leinster he won the European Cup on three occasions and the Celtic League four times.
