Russia’s Elena Eremina held off a strong challenge from Switzerland’s Lynn Genhart to win the junior all-around final at the 2016 European Women’s Artistic Gymnastics Championships at the PostFinance-Arena in Bern.
Eremina posted a total of 54.550 points, bettering that of Genhart by 0.185 as Italy’s Martina Basile took the bronze medal with 54.266.
Britain’s Maisie Methuen and Alice Kinsella placed fourth and fifth respectively, narrowly missing out on the podium with scores of 53.599 points and 53.498 across the four apparatus.
"It feels amazing to have finished so high - not what I expected when I came into the championships - but also in a way to then be so close to a medal is hard," said Methuen.
"I never look at the scores as I’m competing and it was only at the end I saw how close it was.
"Overall I’m really happy."
Action in Bern is due to continue tomorrow with the senior team final.
