Belgium's Sarah Prieels added the continental outdoor crown to her indoor title on a day of compound action at the European Archery Championships in Nottingham today.

Prieels, best-known as an indoor specialist who won the European indoor title in Koper, Slovenia at the start of 2015, made a strong star against Russian opponent Alexandra Savenkova and never looking in danger thereafter.

Savenkova shipped three eights and finished with seven nines as the Belgian maintained a metronomic consistency.

She eventually won 145-136.

“I had like 10 points to play with at the end, so nines were good and, to be honest, I didn’t shoot a single great shot so I’m quite pleased,” said Prieels.

“I had a few issues this week, I managed to win most my matches this week on the last three arrows!”

Mariia Vinogradova took another Russian medal with bronze over Amelie Sancenot of France.

Denmark's world champion Stephan Hansen claimed the corresponding men's title with victory over Dutch defending champion Peter Elzinga.

Tied after three ends at 87 apiece, Elzinga strayed just two arrows into the nine over the last two ends.

But Hansen had hit his stride and shot the last two ends flawlessly, roaring with delight as he delivered the final 10.

“I knew that he had a really good chance.” he said afterwards.

“He’s a really good archer and I’ve shot against him a lot of times, but I just went in there and did my game as best as I could.”

The bronze medal went to Dominique Genet of France, who pipped Croatia's Ivan Markes by a point in the last end.

Hansen had already claimed team gold earlier in the day after Danish victory over Russia.

Turkey overcame defending champions Russia in the women's final.

Action using the Olympic recurve bow is set to conclude tomorrow.
