The 2016 International Bobsleigh and Skeleton Federation (IBSF) Congress will take place on June 12 in London, it has been confirmed.

A number of key decisions are set to be taken by the IBSF membership, including the hosts for the 2020 World Championships, at the event, awarded to the British Bobsleigh and Skeleton Association last year.

The 2017 IBSF Para World Championships, Junior World Championships and Summer Push Championships will also be awarded.

A report is due to be presented by Pyeongchang 2018 on state of preparations ahead of the Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games, which is likely to include an update on progress at the Alpensia Sliding Centre.

Testing at the venue hit problems back in March due to a lack of ice on the track as issues with the refrigeration system meant that only the lower part of the track could be used.

Organisers of the first-ever Winter Games to be held in South Korea played down fears during March’s visit of the International Olympic Committee Coordination Commission, claiming the matter would be swiftly resolved.

The IBSF will also be given a detailed rundown concerning next year’s World Championships, scheduled to take place in 2014 Winter Olympic and Paralympic host city Sochi.

The 2017 race calendar will be approved and announced.

Before the 85th Congress, the first to be staged in Britain since 2007, a City Track Push Championship will be hosted, where teams compete in two-man and two-women bobsleigh, as well as men’s and women’s skeleton, on June 10.

It is hoped the event at the ground of Armoury House in the City of London will help promote the sport in the country.

Around 150 delegates from approximately 38 nations are set to descend on London for the Congress, which will mark the 90th anniversary of the founding of the sport’s governing body in Britain.

At last year’s IBSF Congress, the body unanimously approved a change in the organisation’s name.

It had previously been called the FIBT - Fédération Internationale de Bobsleigh et de Tobogganing - but they will now be known as IBSF.
