Organisers of the first International Ski Federation (FIS) Snowboard World Cup’s first big air event of the season have announced they will also stage a freestyle skiing competition.

Competition at Germany’s SparkassenPark Mönchengladbach will now take place on December 2 and 3, with a 49 metres high scaffolding ramp due to be in place at the venue.

The Jever Fun Skihalle Neuss snowhall will produce the ramp and deliver the snow for both of the competitions.

“We always had the vision to celebrate a first in Europe by hosting a double World Cup event,” said August Pollen, head of local Organising Committee.

“As it was and is a novelty, we were able to expect broad approval by all federations although we had to be in several talks in order to meet everyone’s expectations.”

A total of 130 riders and skiers are expected to attend the World Cup, with 20 countries due to be represented.

The event will see two headline music acts perform as part of the festival, with organisers confirming Beginner as the first main artist.

The Hamburg-based hip-hop trio, who formed in 1992, will perform on a central stage at the event on December 2.

Consisting of Eißfeldt, Denyo and DJ Mad, the group will be reuniting after several years as solo performers.
