New Zealand's Emma Twigg continued her impressive return to international competition by winning her single sculls semi-final at the International Rowing Federation (FISA) European Continental and Final Olympic Qualification Regatta in Lucerne.

Twigg, competing in her first international regatta since her 2014 World Championship win, continued her winning streak by holding off Sanita Puspure of Ireland to reach tomorrow's final.

Denmark's London 2012 silver medallist Fie Udby Erichsen won the second race after returning from a break to have a baby since the last Games.

Belarus' five-time medallist and two-time champion Ekaterina Karsten also made it through.

Russia's four-time Olympian, Julia Levina, was among those who missed out along with British contender Mathilda Hodgkins-Byrne.

Belgium youngster Hannes Obrena continued his good form by winning a thrilling men's single sculls semi-final ahead of Bendeguez Petervari-Molnar of Hungary and Australia's Rhys Grant.

Russia's Andrey Potapkin missed out on a place in the final in the four-way sprint for the line and saw his qualification hopes end.

Sverri Nielsen of Denmark won the second semi-final as early leader Markus Kessler of Switzerland was among those to miss out.

Reigning Olympic champions Mads Rasmussen and Rasmus Quist were among other Danish winners on a good day for the nation.

They beat fast-starting Spanish rivals Adria Mitjavila and Rodrigo Conde Romero in their lightweight double sculls semi-finals as Pedro Fraga and Nuno Mendes of Portugal crossed the line third.

One of the races of the day came in the women's quadruple sculls repechage.

Olympic champions Romania led Ukraine, Britain, Russia as France lay at the back of the field.

But, from four seconds down France roared back to set-up a thrilling sprint to the line with Russians, who just held them off the secure the last spot in the final.

All the finals are due to take place tomorrow on the Swiss lake.
