Paralympic veterans Holly Robinson and Jessica Hamill are among a six-strong New Zealand athletics team named today to compete at September's Games in Rio de Janeiro.

Robinson, a bronze medal winner in the F46 class at last year's World Championships in Doha who also competed at London 2012, is currently ranked number one in the world.

Shot putter and Beijing Paralympian Hamill claimed an F34 silver medal at Doha 2015 and will return from a short break from competition to participate in the Brazilian city.

They will be joined by four debutantes in javelin thrower Rory McSweeney, sprinter Liam Malone, long jumper Anna Grimaldi and multi-eventer William Stedman.

McSweeney competed in his third world championships in Doha last year, winning a silver medal in the men's javelin F44 class.

Malone is currently ranked first in the world in the T43/44 200 and 400 metres events.

Grimaldi won a women's long jump T47 class bronze medal in Doha, while 16-year-old Stedman enjoyed top 10 finishes in both track and field events at the World Championships.

All five are currently ranked in the top five in the world for their respective events.

"I am thrilled to be representing New Zealand at my second Paralympic Games," said Robinson.

"London 2012 was such an amazing experience and I cannot wait to compete at the first Paralympic Games ever to be hosted in a South American city.

"I am so proud to be part of the team and will be training hard between now and September 7."

New Zealand Paralympic team now numbers 24 athletes across the four sports of athletics, cycling, swimming and sailing.
