Ukraine's Oleg Verniaiev continued his sparkling form with two golds and a silver on the opening day of finals at the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) Challenge Cup in Varna, Bulgaria.

Vernaiev, who claimed a golden hatrick at the Olympic test event in Rio de Janeiro last month, won gold on the floor with 15.4002 before registering a whopping total of 15.5332 to claim pommel horse spoils.

He then scored 15.3673 on the rings to finish second behind compatriot Igor Radivilov, who scored 15.4672.

Nobody else won more than one medal today, with Rok Klavora of Slovenia and Britain's Dominick Cunningham taking floor silver and bronze with respective scores of 15.2333 and 15.000.

Croatia's Robert Seligman claimed pommel horse silver with 15.3002 while France's Cyril Tommasone took bronze with 15.300.

Daniil Kazachkov of Russia took rings bronze with 15.133.

Vernaiev, amazingly, still has his best event to come tomorrow in the form of the parallel bars, the apparatus on which he claimed world gold in 2014 and silver in 2015.

Switzerland's Guilia Steingruber led the way on the women's side today with vault gold and uneven bars bronze.

She scored 15.134 to win the former event ahead of Phan Thi Ha Thanh of Vietnam, of 14.400 and Poland's Katarzyna Jurkowska-Kowalska, with 14.167.

Russia's Daria Skrypnik claimed the uneven bars spoils with 15.0672.

Team-mate Evgeniia Shelgnova posted 14.0673 for silver.
