The uniforms staff and volunteers will wear at Rio 2016 have been unveiled - with four different colours featured.

Consisting of a shirt, trousers which can transform into shorts, a jacket, bag, waist pouch, socks, trainers and raincoat, the uniforms were designed with "versatility" in mind, according to organisers.

What colour is worn will depend on the job of the member of staff, with those in medical services wearing red and technical officials donning blue.

Members of the operational team will be kitted out in yellow while those interacting with the general public will be seen in green.

Organisers showed off the uniforms for the first time at the Games Uniform and Accreditation Centre, located in the City of Samba warehouse complex in Rio.

Beth Lula, Rio 2016's brand director, said the uniforms' design reflected the character of the host nation Brazil and its people.

"They were inspired by our nature, by the energy of the Brazilian people and by the visual identity of Rio 2016,” she said.

“They were created in order to show the essence of Team Rio 2016, who are putting in their all to make the Olympic and Paralympic Games memorable.”

In all, around 87,000 members of the Games work-force will be kitted out in the uniforms, which have been designed by Rio 2016's own team and produced by official supplier 361º.

Organisers demonstrated the versatility by introducing dancers who performed a show in the new gear.

The fabric has been designed to wick sweat away and protect from the wind, with the hope it will protect in both warm and cold conditions.

"Flexibility was our guide," said Lula.

"Our staff will carry out multiple functions, there will be people working on foot, others in the office, in the arenas.

"We have thought about each one of them.

"People have laughed about it, but the waist pouch is very useful for those that are constantly on the move and need to always have things like a radio or mobile phone to hand."

Technical officials will also receive a more formal uniform.
