Youngsters have again been given the chance to benefit from the Curling Canada Foundation's "For the Love of Curling" scholarship scheme.

Ten up and coming curlers will be awarded scholarships, which are funded thanks to the support of Canada's curling community.

Applications are accepted from curlers who are, or will be, studying at a Canadian post-secondary institution.

“This is always an exciting time of year because it highlights two amazing aspects of the Curling Canada Foundation,” said Hugh Avery, chairman of the Curling Canada Board of Governors.

“The For the Love of Curling Scholarships are the direct result of the financial support of curlers, which is very gratifying.

"It’s truly satisfying to see that support translate into support for our young curlers, both for their scholastic and athletic dreams.”

Some of last year’s recipients went on to compete at the 2016 Curling Canada University Curling Championships as well as the 2016 Canadian Junior Curling Championships.

Kristen Streifl was the alternate for the gold-medal winning University of Alberta Pandas team that will now represent Canada at the 2017 Winter Universiade in Almaty, Kazakhstan.

Janique LeBlanc won gold at the Canadian juniors and then went on to win with the national side at the World Junior Championships in Taarnby, Denmark.

Each scholarship will provide CAD$1,000 (£536/$777/€676) to help curlers with some of their education and curling costs.

Emphasis will be placed on athletes who have competed at the provincial/territorial level or higher and who have maintained a good level of academic standing.

Recipients must be under the age of 23 on December 31 of this year.
