Home favourites Kim Dong-Yong and Kim Yeji secured their places at Rio 2016 after winning the men’s and women’s single sculls A finals at the International Rowing Federation (FISA) Asian and Oceania Olympic Qualification Regatta in Chungju in South Korea.

Kim Dong-Yong clocked a time of 7min 5.13sec to finish ahead of India’s Dattu Baban Bhokanal, who came second in 7:07.49 having been overtaken in the final stretch.

Indonesia’s Memo Memo also booked his ticket to Rio de Janeiro, rounding out the podium with a time of 7:07.63.

Kim Yeji won the women’s single sculls with a time of 7:44.52 as Iran’s Mahsa Javar came second and Chinese Taipei’s Yi-Ting Huang third in times of 7:48.09 and 7:49.10 respectively.

In the lightweight men's double sculls A final, China’s Man Sun and Chunxin Wang crossed the line first in 6:24.70, followed by Japan’s Hiroshi Nakano and Hideki Omoto in 6:27.79 and Hong Kong’s Hin Chun Chiu and Chiu Mang Tang in 6:29.76.

The equivalent women’s showdown saw Japan come out on top as Ayami Oishi and Chiaki Tomita posted an unrivalled time of 7:03.19.

South Korea’s Yoo Jin Ji and Yuri Choi were runners-up in 7:06.89, while Vietnam’s Thao Pham Thi and Huyen Ta Thanh ended up third in 7:07.32.
