Ireland and Denmark won their qualifications games this evening to secure the last two playoff spots in the World Mixed Doubles Curling Championship at the Löfbergs Arena in Karlstad.

A busy day of action in Sweden concluded with Ireland overcoming Turkey 7-5 and Denmark beating Bulgaria 7-4.

Ireland had earlier defeated Italy 8-7 in tie-breaker for third place in Group D, while Bulgaria claimed a 5-4 victory over Poland and Scotland beat Czech Republic 6-5 in the Group A and Group F equivalents.

The results meant that Austria, third in Group B, and Scotland qualified for the playoffs by virtue of the fact that they had the best draw shot challenge scores of the six third-placed teams.

It left Denmark and Turkey, third in Groups E and C respectively, to go up against Bulgaria and Ireland with both falling short. 

Earlier in the day, South Korea qualified for the playoffs from Group B with a 9-5 win over Austria.

In the same pool, Finland won 12-8 against Slovenia to preserve their unbeaten record at the tournament. 

England overcame Turkey 8-2 in Group C to book a place in the last-16.

In Group D, Canada completed the round-robin undefeated by beating Australia 13-1 and China won 13-2 against Ireland to secure a playoff berth.

The United States made it six wins out of six in Group E after overcoming Israel 6-4.

Russia and Estonia advanced to the post round-robin games. winning their respective Group F matches.

Czech Republic ran Russia close before losing 8-7 and Estonia thrashed Qatar 15-0.

Action in Karlstad is due to continue tomorrow.
