The United States continued in ominous form at the International Wheelchair Rugby Federation (IWRF) Rio 2016 qualifier as they swept into the semi-finals in Paris.

The Americans, the bronze medallists from the London 2012 Paralympics, are heavily tipped to claim one of two places in the Brazilian city on offer in the French capital.

They boast a 100 per cent record in the round robin phase of the six-team competition after four matches, thanks to another pair of wins today.

An opening 60-32 win over underdogs Finland was followed by a 63-41 success over hosts France, who had themselves recorded two victories on day one yesterday.

Both semi-final winners will be assured of a spot in Rio so the Americans, the Sydney 2000 Paralympic champions, now know that they are just one victory away.

Denmark closed in on making it through with a pair of wins to move onto a record of played four, won three, lost one.

They were beaten by France yesterday but saw off Germany 59-52 and Finland 62-43 to advance.

Two automatic spots are available in the last four with the other countries playing-off.

Germany also lost 51-46 to New Zealand to sit on just one victory and two points.

The Kiwis and France then met in a crunch clash to end proceedings today.

It was the New Zealanders who prevailed 56-51 to condemn the French to a second defeat of the day in front of their own fans.

It means both countries have two wins so far, with Germany on one and Finland without a win.

New Zealand will be expected to beat the Finns tomorrow, while Germany play France in a crunch showdown and the US meet Denmark.
