Italy ended their home International Paralympic Committee (IPC) Athletics Grand Prix meeting in style as their women’s T42-57 4x100 metres relay team set a world record on the final day of competition at the Carlo Zecchini Olympic Stadium in Grosseto.

The quartet of Monica Contrafatto, Federica Maspero, Alessia Donizetti and Giuseppina Versace, powered home in 1min 02.29sec to secure victory.

It proved to be a successful outing for the host nation as double world champion Oxana Corso won the T35-37/42 100m in an Italian record time of 14.91sec, finishing comfortably ahead of team-mates Monica Graz Contrafatto and Francesca Cipelli.

Andrea Lanfri followed suit in the T43 100m as he set a national record of 12.38 to top the podium, with Luca Campeotto sealing silver and Gianluca Valori the bronze.

Emanuele Di Marino then stormed to gold in the men’s T44 100m, clocking 12.38 as Italy also dominated the top three, with Heros Marai taking silver and compatriot Giuliano Mancini earning bronze.

Out in the field, Italy’s Carmen Acunto continued her excellent run of form as she picked up her third win of the event in the Tuscan city, clinching gold in the women’s F52-57 shot put thanks to a best effort of 6.19 metres.

Her only rival, Deborah Orsi, finished in second place having thrown 3.43m.

Elsewhere, Turkey’s World Championships silver medallist Hamide Kurt proved too strong in the women’s T33/53/54 100m as she crossed the line in 17.15, edging out team-mate Zubeyde Supurgeci, who was forced to settle for second.

Britain’s Meggan Dawson-Farrell, who secured a hat-trick of gold medals yesterday, took home bronze.

Russia’s Veronika Zotova sealed her second win of the meeting in Grosseto as she finished the T11-12 100m race in 14.04, with Silvia Manca adding to the Italian haul with silver.

Britain’s Jayden Saberton added to his gold medal in the 400m yesterday by reigning supreme in the T35-38 100m event, clocking 12.66 to pip compatriot Reece Goodwin to the title.

Saberton’s triumph was one of three British golds on the track as James Arnott took the T46 honours over the same distance in 11.53, ahead of Andreas Nerantzoulis of Greece and Italy’s Ismail Sadfi, silver and bronze medallists respectively.

Dave Henson also ended the meeting on a positive note as he clocked 13.65 to win the T42 100m race.

Turkey’s Nurullah Kurt denied the British athletes a one-two as he claimed silver, with Luke Sinnott rounding off the podium with bronze.

European silver medallist Adrian Matusik of Slovakia, winner of yesterday’s shot put competition, dominated the men’s discus as he threw 52.30m, which proved far too hot for the rest of the field to handle.

Andrius Skuja of Lithuania’s attempt of 35.14m was enough for silver, while Moreno Marchetti secured bronze.

Serbia’s Nebojsa Duric was another competitor to make it three wins out of three as he threw 26.89m to take gold in the F55-56 javelin.

Lithuanian Ramunas Verbavicius took silver on 25.33m and Charalampos Varytimidis, whose best effort was 23.96m, earned bronze.
