The announcement follows The Professional Disc Golf Association (PDGA) terminating its membership of the WFDF earlier this month.

According to PDGA Executive Director Brian Graham, his organisation left due to a feeling it "could best accomplish its goals and continue the exponential growth of disc golf internationally, outside of a formal relationship with WFDF".

"WFDF has appointed Charlie Mead as Committee chair as the first step is reconstituting WFDF’s disc golf efforts," said WFDF President Robert "Nob” Rauch.

"His first tasks will be to reform the Committee with representatives of WFDF member associations who oversee disc golf in their respective countries, and to ensure that the World Team Disc Golf Championship which will be held in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada on 18-21 August 2016 that is being jointly hosted by WFDF and PDGA will be successful. 

"We are hopeful that the new Committee will be able to provide the strategic direction to WFDF’s board so that we may better serve the global community in the promotion and development of disc golf than we have in the past.”

Mead has experience as a player, administrator and tournament organiser.

He has held World, European and British titles in the sport in the open, master, grand master and senior grand master divisions.
