Olympic boxing champion Katie Taylor has helped to launch the official sponsorship of the Irish team for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games by Kellogg’s.

The partnership will see Kellogg’s begin a #greatstarts campaign, which will see the food manufacturers share stories of Irish Olympians such as Taylor.

Consumers of Kellogg’s products will be given the opportunity to win tickets to Rio 2016, while there will be an instant win competition which will enable the winner to spend a day with Taylor, who won the country’s sole gold at London 2012 when she triumphed in the women’s under 60 kilogram lightweight event.

Kellogg’s will announce a number of athletes to support the campaign in the coming months, in an attempt to inspire people with the stories of country’s Olympic hopefuls.

“Kellogg’s has been a staple of Irish breakfast tables for decades and the brand is synonymous with getting the nation off to a great start in the morning,” Jim McNeill, managing director of Kellogg’s Ireland, said.

“We are the champion of great starts.

“We are proud to be an official partner of Team Ireland and it’s a winning fit for us as we look to create excitement for retailers and shoppers across our cereal and snacks brands ahead of and during Rio 2016.”

As part of the agreement, Kellogg’s will have Team Ireland marketing rights across its brands, including Kellogg’s Corn Flakes, Special K, Squares and Pringles until the end of 2016.

They are set to launch a full year's marketing and activation programme, through the use of cereal and snacks products, as well as staging events across multiple media channels.

“We are delighted to welcome Kellogg’s on board as a Team Ireland sponsor,” Pat Hickey, President of the Olympic Council of Ireland, said.

“Athletes believe, as we do, that the power of breakfast is crucial to a great start to the day and that from great starts come great things.

“That’s one of the messages we will help to deliver as Team Ireland.”
