Teenage sensation He Bingjiao claimed a superb women's singles victory at the Badminton World Federation (BWF) Swiss Open at the St Jakobshalle in Basel today by shocking third-seeded compatriot Wang Yihan in the all-Chinese final.

Wang, the world champion in 2011 and the Olympic silver medallist at London 2012, had impressively beaten top-seeded Indian Saina Nehwal to reach the final yesterday.

She proved unable to recapture that form against an opponent she defeated in straight sets at the All England Open Badminton Championships in Birmingham earlier this month.

He, at 18 one of the rising stars of the sport, won 21-16, 21-10 in just 35 minutes to claim one of the biggest scalps of her career so far in an event that is part of the BWF Grand Prix Gold series.

H.S. Prannoy continued India's stranglehold on the men's singles title by replicating Kidambi Srikanth's triumph last year.

He beat Germany's Marc Zwiebler in two tight games to wrap-up a 21-18, 21-15 victory in 45 minutes.

There was an all-Japanese clash in the women's doubles, the opening final of the day.

Fifth-seeded Shizuka Matsuo and Mami Naito overcame third-ranked rivals Naoko Fukuman and Kurumi Yonao 21-16, 12-21, 21-12 in a 102 minute epic.

A second Chinese success came in the mixed doubles when Wang Yilyu and Chen Qingchen recovered from a set down to win 19-21, 21-16, 21-15 over Thailand's Bodin Issara and Savitree Amitrapai.

Europe enjoyed success in the final event, however, as Kim Astrup and Anders Skaarup Rasmussen claimed a Danish victory iin the men's doubles.

They beat Lee Sheng Mu and Tsai Chia Hsin of Chinese Taipei 21-8, 21-15 in just 30 minutes.
