Switzerland continued their superb form on home snow at the International Ski Federation (FIS) World Cup in St. Moritz, pipping Germany to victory in the Nation’s Team Event.

The innovative discipline, set to make its Olympic bow at Pyeongchang in two years time, consisted of teams of two men and two women.

Each competed in a head-to-head format against a rival from another team in a knockout style format.

The Swiss quartet of Wendy Holdener, Daniel Yule, Michelle Gisin and Reto Schmidiger impressively defeated teams from Norway and Sweden in the early rounds.

This set-up a final against Germany's Katrin Hirtl-Stanggassinger, Stefan Luitz, Lena Duerr and Dominik Stehle.

Disaster appeared to have struck for the hosts when Yule and Gisin each failed to finish their runs.

Superb performances by Holdener and Schmidiger - both unbeaten all day - proved enough for the Swiss to win by just 0.04 seconds, though.

Sweden secured the third spot on the podium, beating France in three out of the four races.

Austria, United States and Italy had all bowed out in the quarter-finals along with Norway.

Action is due to continue tomorrow in the Swiss resort with the women's slalom and men's giant slalom season finales.
