Olympic and World Cup champions United States have been grouped with Venezuela, China and Australia in Group A following the draw for the Rio 2016 tournament.

The Americans will also face two countries who come through the World Qualifying Tournaments in July as they bid to win the gold medal for the third time in a row.

Venezuela qualified by winning the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) Americas Championship in 2015 while China and Australia were crowned as Asian and Oceania champions respectively.

In Group B, hosts Brazil have been drawn with London 2012 silver medallists Spain, the champions of the 2015 EuroBasket.

There will be a repeat of the European final as runners-up Lithuania are also in the group, alongside African champions Nigeria and Americas Championship runners-up Argentina.

The group will be completed by the third team to come through the qualifying tournaments, which are being held in Serbia, Italy and The Philippines.

In the women's tournament, the United States will be looking for a fourth gold medal in a row, with the Olympic champions grouped with Canada, Senegal and Serbia in Group B.

The Canadians won the Americas Championship on home soil in Edmonton, with Serbia winning the women's EuroBasket and Senegal triumphing in Africa.

Two qualifiers will join them, while Brazil will welcome Japan and Australia in Group A, the Asian and Oceania champions respectively.

Three nations from the qualifying tournament - which will be held in France in June - will complete the group.
