Danang in Vietnam will host this year's Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) General Assembly on the opening day of the Asian Beach Games in September rather than Cambodia, it has been confirmed.

Cambodia was originally named as host of the annual meeting during the 2013 OCA General Assembly, held, due to a postponement after Typhoon Haiyan, in January 2014 in Manila.

This was never formally confirmed, however, and little progress had been made in actually organising the event, or finding a specific venue.

OCA President Sheikh Ahmad Al-Fahad Al-Sabah reveled at the 2015 General Assembly in Ashgabat that Danang was being considered as an alternative if progress was not made in Cambodia.

This has now been confirmed in a circular sent out to Asian National Olympic Committees, with the meeting now due to take place in the city in the centre of Vietnam, on September 25, the day after the Asian Beach Games Opening Ceremony.

It will follow an OCA Executive Board meeting the previous day.

It comes at a tense time for the OCA because of fears they may be forced to vacate their headquarters in Kuwait City due to a dispute with the Government there.

Kuwait was suspended by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) last October for alleged Government interference.

Kuwait - which claimed the suspension was "totally unacceptable" - then reportedly took steps to withdraw from the OCA, as well as breaking off a diplomatic immunity agreement.

The OCA claim to have had "several offers" from other countries to house the body if they are ultimately forced out of a headquarters building which was only formally opened in March 2014.

There have also been concerns over preparations for the Asian Beach Games, with the OCA having called for a greater cash flow to be provided to organisers.

Danang 2016 is due to take place from September 24 in October 3.

Another Executive Board meeting could potentially be held in Kuwait in late April or early May, but this is yet to be confirmed.
