Every four years Yakutsk, the capital of the Saka region of Russia, hosts the Children of Asia Games with the event being based on the Olympic Games.

The Games, which will have its sixth edition from July 5 to 17, were launched in 1996 to mark the 100th anniversary of the first modern Olympics in Athens.

A total of 22 sports will be contested at the event, with 14 Olympic and eight non-Olympic disciplines.

UAE NOC executive director Omar Abdul Rahman and assistant secretary general Dawood Al Hajri welcomed the delegation in Dubai, with the aim of the meeting to foster cooperation between the two parties.

It was stressed by Yakutsk 2016 that the main aim of the Children of Asia Games was to help young people develop skills and pursue a healthy lifestyle.

The idea of installing values into young people about the need for fair competition was also one of the key topics discussed.

Al Hajri pledged that the UAE NOC were committed to supporting young people in the nation in order to develop upcoming generations into potential competitors and medal winners on the world stage.

The meeting was viewed as an important step for the NOC as they prepare to host the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Youth Games from September 15 to 21.

It will be the first staging of the event, which will be held in Abu Dhabi and will see 13 sports contested.

Pistol and rifle shooting, equestrian, judo, athletics, swimming, archery, boxing, table tennis, taekwondo, judo, sailing, rowing and cycling will all take place.

Fellow GCC members Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar and Saudi Arabia are expected to be taking part in the multi-sport event.

The country already stage an annual Schools Olympics, which has the aim of finding and training young talent.

It is hoped the athletes will then go on to represent their country at the Olympic Games, whilst having had all the values of Olympism installed into them.
