Aline De Souza Facciolla Ferreira, a promising teenager who claimed the under 48 kilograms combined silver medal at last year's World Youth Championships in Lima after winning the snatch event, returned an Adverse Analytical Finding for anabolic agent boldenone, an International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) release revealed.

She is consequently provisionally suspended in view of a potential anti-doping rule violation, with it yet to be revealed exactly when her failure was recorded.

Her compatriot Alexsandra De Aguiar Goncalves, a 27-year-old who claimed under 53kg gold at December's South American Championships in Lima, also failed for boldenone.

Brazil, this year's Olympic hosts, were among six nations placed on a "watch-list" by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) last year to evaluate their compliance with the World Anti-Doping Code. 

They have to meet compliance criteria by March 18, and face being declared non-compliant by WADA if they do not.

Another provisionally sanctioned is Nigeria's Elizabeth Onuah. the Brazzaville 2015 All-African Games under 53kg champion, who only returned from a previous two-year ban for using hydrochlorothiazide and amiloride in 2012.

She failed for banned diuretic and masking agent amirolide.

Egyptian Abdalla Zeinab, who took under 58kg bronze in Brazzaville, failed for steroid methenolone, while Bolivia's Daniela Nicole Villaroel Agramont also returned an adverse finding for methandienone and testosterone.

The number of doping cases in weightlifting is showing no sign of slowing.

Following an unsuccessful appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport, Bulgarian weightlifters are to be banned from Rio 2016 after 11 positive tests were registered during the qualification period.

Failures by teenagers are a particular concern, however, with Nigerian weightlifter Chika Amalaha having also failed at the age of 16 after winning gold at the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games.

This comes as the list of athletes formally sanctioned by the IWF in 2015 rises to 34 after another raft of additions.

These include Russia's Ilya Atnabayev, the 2015 European Youth under 85kg champion who was handed a backdated four-year ban until 2019 after testing positive for anabolic agent stanozolol.

Denis Kekhter, the under 94kg European youth champion in 2014, was handed a similar ban after he refused to show-up for doping testing.

Another to have had his sanction confirmed is Brazil's Patrick Mendes, who has been handed an eight-year ban after failing for testosterone metabolites after finishing in fourth place at last year's Pan American Games in Toronto.

A former two-time United States heavyweight champion, the 25-year-old was also suspended for two years in March 2012 for using a human growth hormone.

He switched nationality to Brazil at the conclusion of his ban.
