UK Trade and Investment (UKTI) and the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) Academy are offering British companies the opportunity to participate as delegates in the Academy Campus during the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games.

The United Kingdom Government department first partnered with the IPC’s educational division during the London 2012 Paralympic Games, before extending their relationship at Sochi 2014.

During Rio 2016 it is hoped 1,200 key stakeholders will gain further knowledge and expertise through the Campus, which will feature a series of education programmes geared towards improving the capabilities and capacity of future event organisers.

Governments, organisations in the events industry and groups from within the Paralympic Movement will also be involved, it is hoped.

The IPC Academy and UKTI have provided British companies with the opportunity to attend Games Experience Programme sessions aimed at their business interests, while they will be able join selected activities of the IPC Observers’ Programme, according to their business field.

Further benefits include being able to visit competition venues, Games’ coordination centres and the Paralympic Village, as well as obtaining accreditation as observers and being part of the IPC Academy Campus cocktail reception.

The latter will enable the business to network with members of the Organising Committees of Pyeongchang 2018, Tokyo 2020 and Beijing 2022, while event organisers from several other Continental Games are also expected to be in attendance.

British business delegates are invited to register for a fee of €5,000 (£3,784/€5,443), excluding VAT, while flights and accommodation in Rio will not be included.

UKTI have also stated parties will be able to obtain access to the IPC Hospitality Centre to enhance their networking opportunities and meet and hear from hosts of some of sport’s biggest events to discuss their concepts and plans.

Meanwhile, the IPC Academy are currently working with IPC’s appointed ticket and travel agency, Jet Set Sport, in an effort to design cost efficient travel packages, which will be offered on an optional basis.

A scholarship scheme has been launched by IPC Academy and UKTI, with businesses who can justify the relevance of their visit to the Campus being able to secure discounts on the standard registration fee.

Mirco-companies, who have less than 10 members of staff and are a “sport related supplier”, will be eligible to apply for a discount of 50 per cent, with 10 places available.

Small to medium business can vie for one of 15 places which will be offered at 25 per cent off, while five large organisations can seek a discount of 15 per cent.

The size of the company will also depend on their turnover for the last financial year, in addition to the number of staff they employ.
