The Paralympic Committees from Angola and Namibia have signed a Memorandum of Understanding with each other.

Michael Hamukwaya, secretary general of the Namibian Paralympic Committee (NPC), received a delegation from the Angolan Paralympic Committee (CPA)  to seal an agreement aimed at uncovering how the two organisations can work together to help their athletes achieve better results.

“The objective of the meeting is to find ways on how we as sister countries can work together to better our athletes,” Hamukwaya told New Era Sport.

“Angola has seen what Namibian athletes can do at continental and international levels, thus they have asked for this meeting to share and learn from us and we from them as well.”

António da Luz, CPA secretary general, was joined by Angola’s national Paralympics coordinator José Manuel for the meeting in Windhoek.

A collaboration to stage a 15-day joint training camp for both nations Paralympic athletes was among the ideas due to be discussed by the parties.

The suggestion was to have top athletes being able to train with each other in Windhoek, with athletes being able to benefit from using the facilities in Namibia’s capital.

Additionally the coaches would be able to share their expertise and increase their own knowledge, as they seek to achieve best practices when coaching their athletes.

It is hoped the MoU would help to improve the standard of the athletes as the nations build towards this year's Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.

Angola have competed at every Paralympic Games since Atlanta 1996 and have secured a total of eight medals.

Jose Armando Sayovo, a T11 sprinter, has claimed all four of the country's gold medals at the Paralympic Games.

Meanwhile, Namibia having claimed three Paralympic medals in their history, with Johanna Benson having won gold and silver in women's T37 sprint events at London 2012.

Her achievement followed Reginald Benade winning bronze in the men's F35 to 36 discus at Beijing 2008.
