Britain’s Menna Fitzpatrick continued her impressive start to her International Paralympic Committee (IPC) Alpine Skiing World Cup career as she claimed the gold medal in the women’s visually impaired race in St Moritz.

The 17-year-old, guided by Jen Kehoe, was quickest in both runs as she powered home in a combined time of 1min 55.09sec.

Staci Mannella of the United States, along with guide Sadie De Baun, did enough for second ,while compatriot Danelle Umstead, guided by husband Rob, was third.

American Thomas Walsh, also making his first appearance on the IPC Alpine Skiing World Cup circuit this season, clinched the men’s standing honours thanks to clocking an overall time of 1:35.24.

Team-mate James Stanton secured his second World Cup podium as he took home silver as he edged Austria’s Martin Wuerz, who had to settle for bronze.

Elsewhere, Paralympic and world champion Valerii Redkozubov of Russia returned to winning ways as he sealed the gold medal in the men’s visually impaired along with guide Evgeny Geroev in a time of 1:34.61.

His success followed a string of second place results as he pipped Italy’s Giacomo Bertagnolli, guided by Fabrizio Casal, to take victory.

Spain’s Jon Santacana Maiztegui and guide Miguel Galindo were third.

It also proved to be a good outing for France’s 11-time world champion Marie Bochet as she continued her unbeaten run in the 2015-2016 season, clinching gold in the women’s standing in 1:44.72.

Bochet was, however, made to work hard for her triumph as she was pushed all the way by American Stephanie Jallen, who was just 0.02 seconds adrift of the winning time.

Canada’s Alana Ramsay earned bronze by coming home in third place.

In the men’s sitting, World Championships silver medallist Taiki Morii of Japan skied to his first victory of the season in 1:36.84, with Croatia’s Dino Sokolovic recovering from a difficult opening run to take silver.

Paralympic and world champion Takeshi Suzuki, also of Japan, could manage only third.

Germany’s Anna-Lena Forster sealed gold in the women’s sitting, clocking 1:49.01 to oust Laurie Stephens of the United States and Japan’s Momoka Muraoka, second and third respectively.

The event in St Moritz is due to continue tomorrow.
